Johannesburg – 21 November 2022: WiMSA is thrilled to celebrate all 100 women who have been selected for Women in Mining UK’s 2022 edition of the “100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining” (WIM100), with a special congratulations to the nominees in South Africa: Marna Cloete, Mogaleadi Seabela, Raksha Naidoo, Sophy Mfhuthi, Tapiwa Chimbganda, Shilpa Rumjeet, Fatima Hayat and Neo Molelekeng. They were selected from 915 nominations for 491 women from 61 countries.

The WIM100 highlights the wealth of female talent within the global mining industry, celebrates their “above & beyond” contributions to the industry, and identifies role models for future generations. Judging criteria includes being a trailblazer and making positive and impactful changes so the industry can operate in a more safe, sustainable and inclusive way; a commitment to advocating and empowering those working in the mining industry and beyond; and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Petro du Pisani, Women in Mining South Africa (WiMSA) Chairperson and WIM100 alumna (2020), would like to congratulate the Women in Mining WIM100 nominees.

Petro added: “We celebrate these phenomenal role models. We are very proud of our South African nominees for being featured in the top 100. The WIM100 book has inspired many women around the world to enter the mining industry and has showcased that women belong in the mining industry and can purposely contribute to building economies in their respective countries.”

Dr. Stacy Hope, Managing Director at Women in Mining UK, said, “Congratulations to WiMSA’s WIM100s. They are being celebrated because of their commitment to making mining a stronger, safer and more sustainable industry for everyone.
