It is with deep joy, humility and unstoppable excitement that I step into the role of President of Women in Mining South Africa at such a defining moment for our industry and our organisation. 

WiMSA continues to stand as a strong advocate and voice for transformation in mining through the empowerment of women.

The world we live in is changing rapidly and our industry is continuing to transform and transition with this change to better meet the needs of the world. 

Our WiMSA theme for 2026, “Break the Ground. Own the Shift,” is both a declaration and a call to action that the future of mining will not happen without women.

It speaks to courage to challenge outdated norms, to innovate boldly and to claim leadership in spaces where our voices were once excluded or unheard. It is about ownership of our careers, our expertise, our wellbeing and our collective power as women in mining to shape the future of the industry.

Women are breaking new ground and owning the shift, shaping the mines of tomorrow. This will be done through innovation, progressive leadership and women advancing the change. Mining is changing more than ever, driven by leading trends in digital systems, autonomous operations, critical minerals/green metals, safer workplaces and inclusive cultures.

This is not a small shift. Women are not here to observe this transition. We are here to lead it.

This year, we invite stronger collaboration across the mining value chain: industry leaders, partners, policymakers, academic institutions, young professionals and allies. The future of mining will be built through partnership, mentorship, innovation and inclusion. WiMSA stands ready to drive change and co-create the future with you.
