On 3 October 2025, Women in Mining South Africa (WIMSA) had the privilege of engaging with 3rd-year and Master’s Geology students at the University of Pretoria. The session, hosted in collaboration with Prof. Lorenzo Milani, created a powerful platform to connect with future leaders in the mining and geosciences sectors and to strengthen the bridge between academia and industry.

Nonkululeko Hope Dire, a Manager at Enaex, delivered an inspiring presentation, sharing her personal journey along with practical and empowering insights to help students confidently transition from university into the world of work.

Humbulani Havhi, the Deputy Chairperson of WIMSA, spoke about the WIMSA Career Booklet, an invaluable resource that showcases the wide range of career opportunities within the mining industry. The booklet features contributions from experienced professionals who continue to drive progress and innovation within the sector.

Musalafu Phathutshedzo, the WIMSA Student Partnership Lead, shared practical guidance on essential soft skills, early-career challenges, and the importance of workplace readiness. The session highlighted the value of adaptability, effective communication, and a growth mindset as students prepare to enter the professional world.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Prof. Lorenzo Milani and the University of Pretoria for their warm hospitality and for championing meaningful collaborations that bring industry and academia closer together.
