Women in Mining South Africa welcomes the 50 mentees that have been accepted onto the 2023 Mentoring Programme that is offered in partnership with Briony Liber Coaching.
The programme conceptualised by Briony Liber in 2020 is now going into its 3rd successful year. Over 10 months, mentees will learn how to leverage all aspects of their career value chain to ensure that they optimise how they position their expertise, advocate for themselves, nurturing and leveraging their network, ensuring they remain relevant in their industries and how to extract maximum value from their competencies to deliver maximum value to their stakeholders.
We are thrilled to welcome young professional women in the mining industry from across the South African mining landscape as well as two women working outside of South Africa in Zambia and Sudan.
Our mentees continue to represent the various careers in the mining industry, (and again emphasise as WiMSA has done in the WiMSA Career Booklet published in 2022) that the mining industry embraces and has room for a diverse range of career paths.
This year our programme includes women with between 1 and 15 years work experience from these professions: human resources, training, accounting, project management, lecturing, mining engineering, plant metallurgists, quantity surveying, cost engineering, technical engineering, chemical engineering, safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ), geology, process optimization, and process control.
Our mentees are located in almost all the provinces of South Africa from a diverse range of mining houses, consulting companies and suppliers to the mining industry.
WiMSA is grateful to our sponsors without whom we would not be able to offer this valuable mentoring programme. In 2023, our sponsors are:
Platinum Sponsor: Northam Booysendal
Gold Sponsors: United Mining Services (UMS) Group and Weir Minerals
Silver Sponsors: Tshepa Basadi Group and AMIS
Thank you to Briony Liber and the WiMSA Mentoring Sub-Committee (listed below) for the work they are doing for our programme.

Our WiMSA Chairperson Raksha Naidoo has always advocated for the power of mentorship, and mentorship remains a foundational pillar of the WiMSA organisation. Raksha says: “We are excited to welcome our 2023 mentees into the programme, and I personally look forward to watching each of their journeys unfold. WiMSA is proud to partner with Briony Liber Coaching on this journey, and we are both committed to helping these mentees become bold, become brave and being the best versions of themselves!”
